How browser storage works
A cookie is a small file a website can save on your device. Browser storage is a similar way to remember information. Local storage can remain after you close the browser. Session storage normally lasts for the current tab session, although some browsers can restore a previous session.
The current preview uses browser storage rather than cookies. It does not install analytics or advertising cookies. No payment-provider script or social media tracking plugin is loaded by the payment images or footer icons.
Storage needed for the features you use
The basket remembers plants you choose to add. The checkout preview remembers details only when you enter and save them or continue through that preview. We also remember the privacy setting you select so you are not repeatedly asked the same question.
| Storage name | What it remembers | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| gh-cart | Product references, selected options and quantities | Keeps your chosen basket as you browse | Local storage. No automatic expiry; removed when you clear saved data or your browser removes it. |
| gh-checkout-details | Details entered during the checkout preview, including email, addresses and delivery instructions | Keeps the information you enter as you move through checkout | Session storage. Normally ends with the browser tab session; can be cleared at any time. |
| gh-preview-order | Preview reference, selected plants, quantities and prices | Shows the preview confirmation after checkout | Session storage. Normally ends with the browser tab session; can be cleared at any time. |
| gh-privacy-preferences | Your recently viewed setting and the date it was saved | Remembers and applies your privacy choice | Local storage, up to 180 days from the saved choice. |
Optional recently viewed plants
This feature is off unless you enable it. When enabled, it saves up to four product references so that you can return to plants you have looked at. It does not save your name or contact details and is not shared with an advertising service.
You can switch the feature off at any time. Switching it off removes its saved product references and stops the site remembering further views. If the saved privacy choice expires, the feature returns to off until you choose again.
| Storage name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| gh-recent | Remembers up to four recently viewed product references after you enable the feature | Local storage. Removed when you switch the feature off, clear saved data or the related 180-day privacy choice expires. |
Your cookie settings
The basket and checkout preview can work with recently viewed plants switched off. Use the setting below to choose whether this browser remembers recently viewed plants. Your choice applies to this browser and device.
Clear saved website data
Use the clear-data control below to remove the basket, checkout preview details, preview confirmation and recently viewed product references from this browser. This does not cancel an order because the preview cannot place an order.
Your privacy choice is kept so the site continues to follow it. To remove that choice as well, delete this website’s stored data in your browser settings. Blocking all browser storage can prevent the basket or checkout preview working as expected.
Links to other websites
We link to external guidance where it helps with plant selection and care. Those sites have their own cookie and privacy notices. We do not load their tracking tools simply because a link appears on a Plants for Garden page.
